Cordon in place after driver 'fails to stop' for police then ploughs into other car

A driver was arrested last night after he failed to stop for police in Bolton then ploughed into another car.

Officers tried to stop the driver on Prince Street at around 6.40pm yesterday evening (Sunday). But he made off from the scene and smashed into another car on Blackburn Road, close to the town centre.

The driver - a 42-year-old man - was taken to hospital for treatment on non life-threatening or non life-changing injuries, police said. He was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

A local resident, who asked not to be named, described Blackburn Road as 'dangerous' as he said he saw one casualty was taken away by paramedics from the scene. "I didn't hear the crash but my neighbour did", he said.

"I heard all the police sirens and looked out of the window. Half of the white car involved is missing.

"They're both a write off. One person was put on a stretcher from the scene and taken away in an ambulance."

He continued: "In this area there is always something. It is dangerous and concerning as a family; we could be walking on the pavement and all of a sudden we get struck through no fault of our own."

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "A vehicle failed to stop for police
