Main road cordoned off in both directions amid serious police incident

A main road in Bolton is cordoned off in both directions this evening amid an ongoing police incident. Blackburn Road (A666) close to Bolton town centre is blocked currently with emergency services at the scene.

Video footage taken earlier this evening shows a heavy police presence in attendance. The road is taped off at the busy junction with the A6099, beside the Mercedes showroom.

Live traffic service Inrix has reported: "A666 Blackburn Road in both directions closed due to serious accident, a car involved from the B6206 to A6099 Halliwell Road."

A local resident, who asked not to be named, is bringing up a family. He has said Blackburn Road is 'dangerous'.

After what is understood to have been a 'head on' collision this evening, he said one casualty was taken away by paramedics from the scene.

"I didn't hear the crash but my neighbour did. I heard all the police sirens and looked out of the window.

"Half of the white car involved is missing. They're both a write off.

"One person was put on a stretcher from the scene and taken away in an ambulance."

He continued: "In this area there is always something. It is dangerous and concerning as a family; we could be walking on the pavement and all
