Corberan gives honest reaction to two Huddersfield penalty appeals after admitting play-off ‘frustration’

Carlos Corberan admitted his frustration at Huddersfield Town losing the play-off final, but had to “accept” two penalty calls not going their way.

Huddersfield were denied a Premier League return at the final hurdle as Nottingham Forest won the play-off final 1-0. An own goal from Levi Colwill proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Corberan’s side had finished above Forest in the regular season. However, it is their opponents who will be in the 2022-23 Premier League, whereas they will remain in the Championship.

It has still been a positive season according to Corberan; after all, Huddersfield finished 20th in the previous campaign. They have made progress but not quite enough for a top-flight return.

However, he didn’t feel there was much difference between the two sides at Wembley, where Forest were responsible for the only two shots on target of the 90 minutes.

Corberan told BBC Radio Leeds: “[It] was a very balanced game. Both teams were not able to create enough chances.

“We were more aggressive in the second half and attacked more. In the first half we counter-attacked more. They score a half-chance, and we couldn’t do that.”

Huddersfield may have felt aggrieved due to two penalty appeals that didn’t go in their favour. First, Harry Toffolo went down from a possible clip by Jack Colback, and second, Lewis O’Brien was floored under a challenge by Max Lowe.
