Contracts, a transfer overhaul and your West Brom questions answered

West Brom’s season is fizzling out before the final international break of the season.

A run of three wins in 18 league matches since the last international break, in November, has almost certainly consigned Albion to another year in the Championship, and their fall from grace has been dramatic and abrupt.

The Baggies have plummeted from sixth to 13th in the time that new boss Steve Bruce has been at the club, and although he’s not been able to deliver an immediate change in fortunes, it’s clear that the former Newcastle manager should not wholly shoulder the burden for that demise.

Indeed the form-book will tell you that Albion were pointing that way before Bruce arrived, it was why he was brought to the club in the first place - to arrest a predicted slide down the table, a slide which has occurred anyway.

Albion are now eight points behind those in the play-off places, and they’ve played a game more than most of those competitors too. They have now a dozen matches remaining of the season and, by Bruce’s own admission, talk of promotion is folly right now.
