A big update has emerged on Rangers gem Alex Lowry regarding the Glasgow giants’ plans for his future at Ibrox… 

According to the Daily Record’s Scott Burns, the Gers are prepared to offer a contract to the midfielder in order to keep him at the club in the long term.

The report claims that they have been in talks with him and are now set to make their attempt to pin him down to an extension, with his current terms set to expire at the end of next season.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will surely be left buzzing by this news, as a fresh deal for the youngster would avoid the club losing him to another team on a free transfer. Other clubs may have become alerted to Lowry’s potential availability within the next 18 months if Rangers were slack and did not try to extend his contract, which could have led to them seeing him leave for nothing.

This would have been particularly frustrating for Van Bronckhorst after he handed the midfielder his first-team debut against Stirling Albion last week. He scored in the 4-0 win over the League Two side in the Scottish Cup, having clearly made enough of an impact in training to convince the head coach to give him a chance.

In his last nine games for Rangers and Scotland at youth and senior level, the teenager has produced four goals and two assists from central midfield. This suggests that he is enjoying a fine season and starting to show that he could have the potential to become a key first-team player for the club further down the line.
