'In the summer...' - Fabrizio Romano drops weekend Rangers transfer update on £4.5m-rated star

Rangers will have ‘priority’ over Aaron Ramsey’s other suitors at the end of his loan spell from Juventus, Fabrizio Romano has told Football Scotland. 

On Deadline Day, Rangers agreed a deal to take Ramsey on loan from The Old Lady for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The Welshman has made two appearances for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side so far, playing roughly 15 minutes as a substitute against both Hearts and Hibernian this week.

According to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, the loan agreement does not include an option to buy.

And Romano says Ramsey had already caught the eye of ‘many’ Premier League clubs before moving to Ibrox. Those sides could feasibly make another attempt to land him in the summer.

Speaking in a big weekend update from Football Scotland, Romano believes Rangers have an advantage but insisted it was ‘too early’ to make any hard predictions.

For now, he thinks the Gers will just be grateful that they have Ramsey at their disposal.

“They’ll have the priority in the summer to make it permanent but it’s too early now to say whether it’ll happen or not,” he said.

“They’re for sure happy to have a player like Aaron Ramsey in their team.”

How much would Ramsey cost? Well, the 31-year-old is valued at £4.5million by Transfermarkt, and his Juventus contract has less than 18 months to run now. Based on Rangers’ historic spending, that fee doesn’t appear to be prohibitive.

The prospect of permanently landing Ramsey, a player who’s been billed ‘world-class’ by international team-mate Joe Allen, is an exciting one.

But wages may well be a stumbling block when Juventus aren’t footing part of the bill.
