Tottenham manager Antonio Conte could axe second-choice goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini this summer by signing Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.

According to The Daily Mirror, both Spurs and European giants Ajax are interested in signing the English shot-stopper in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the 25-year-old said to be exploring his options.

Dubbed as “frustrating” and “poor” by Spurs insider John Wenham, Gollini has been a bit of a disaster for the Lilywhites.

Over the course of his four appearances in the Europa Conference League earlier in the season, the Italian was in shocking form for the north Londoners, failing to keep a single clean sheet against the likes of Stade Rennes, NS Mura and Vitesse.

That’s not to mention that he also conceded six goals and averaged just 1.3 saves per match, at a meagre success rate of 45%. Indeed, as per Sofascore, his 6.25 average match rating ranked him as Spurs’ second-worst performer in the competition.

In Henderson, they would be getting a homegrown goalkeeper with plenty of Premier League experience, and at the right age for him to be a long-term successor to Lloris and an instant upgrade on Gollini.

Chris Wilder, the 25-year-old’s former boss at Sheffield United, even insisted that he is ready to step up for international duty, saying: “He has got a mental strength to play in goal with his a hugely difficult position and a brilliant attitude and ability. I am sure he will be pushing and gaining that England shirt he is desperate to get.”
