Conte can form "dangerous" duo as THFC plot bids for £156m pair who "really get along" - opinion
Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Frederic Gounongbe, with the former footballer turned analyst stating his belief in a recent interview with RTL (via Sport Witness) that the centre-forward could simply change postcodes in London this summer, with Antonio Conte’s side looking to be the most likely destination for the 28-year-old if he were to leave Chelsea.
Earlier reports have also suggested that the Belgium international would be keen on a move to north London in order to once again link up with the 52-year-old manager, with the striker having so far struggled to find his refind his best form after returning to Stamford Bridge last summer.
Regarding Lukaku’s future, Gounongbe said: “For Lukaku, it will be either at Chelsea, with a change of system or coach – he still has five years of contract – or stay in London, but change neighbourhood and go to Tottenham.
“There is a certain Antonio Conte, and, if [Harry] Kane should leave, a place will become available, even if it will be complicated between these two clubs.”
While Kane’s future in north London appears to be slightly more certain following Conte’s appointment at the club last November, the England captain nevertheless continues to be linked with a move away this summer – with The Athletic recently reporting that the 28-year-old could be tempted by a move to Manchester United at the end of the current campaign.
Should this come to fruition, there would appear to be a very real possibility of Tottenham launching an offensive for the £97.5m Lukaku – a deal that could potentially see the Belgian – who Thomas Tuchel dubbed “dangerous” – link up with his former Inter Milan teammate, Lautaro
