Connor Goldson suffers Rangers hammer blow as Gio reveals how long star defender will miss

Rangers will be without Connor Goldson for months after the club confirmed the full extent of his thigh injury.

The defender was forced off during the first half of Rangers' brutal 7-1 hammering at home to Liverpool in the Champions League, Record Sport revealed earlier this week the defender was facing a lengthy injury lay-off. And now Gio Van Bronckhorst has confirmed his talisman won't be back anytime soon. His withdrawal came as a major blow to the Light Blues, who had been holding their own against the Reds in the first 45 minutes, Scott Arfield firing them into the lead before Roberto Firmino levelled things up.

Speaking at his press conference the Dutchman said: "Goldson and Jack have injuries, they both have muscular issues and won't be back in the short term Davies had a knock but could continue, he has no injury and I expect him to be involved tomorrow. It's always a blow, Connor has played all the games since I arrived.

"I'm not exactly sure yet on Connor (Goldson), but it will be several months out by looks of it."

Without Goldson, it quickly fell apart after the break as the Gers shipped a further six goals to the rampant Scousers. Mo Salah's six minute hat-trick did most of the damage after Firmino and Darwin Nunez had established a 3-1 lead for Jurgen Klopp's men. Harvey Elliott added to the embarrassment with his first Champions League goal for the club.

A defensive crisis has now engulfed Gio van Bronckhorst's squad. Summer signing John Souttar was already expected to be out until after the break for this winter's World Cup, while Filip Helander is facing a similar length of time on the sidelines.
