Connor Coghill moves closer to title shot as Hull boxers celebrate winning night at Hull City Hall

Connor Coghill moved a step closer to a title shot later this year with a measured and dominant performance to make it 12 fights unbeaten. Headlining a bill at Hull City Hall stacked with local talent, the 27-year-old showed a different side after being caught in a war in his last outing at the venue back in February.

Up against Christian Narvaez who was in his 65th contest, Coghill found himself having to first work out and then unpick his seasoned opponent, and did so with the type of display that showcased his growing maturity and ring craft, much to the delight of his trainer Tommy Coyle.

A steady opening three rounds of working safely behind the jab and picking up the scoring shots before safely moving out of range almost unchallenged gave way to a more open contest as the featherweight stepped up the pressure and the work rate in the second half of the contest.

Never in any real danger, Coghill owned the centre of the ring throughout and was a convincing 60-54 points winner, comfortably picking up every round. It was an entertaining end to a night that had started on a disappointing note.
