Teenage Para sprinter Sheriauna Haase captured gold in the 100 metres to headline a six-medal Thursday for Canada at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Haase, 19, won the women's T47 category (for upper-limb impairment) in 12.23 seconds, lowering her own Canadian record. The silver went to another young Canadian: 17-year-old Chloe Dunbar.

Canada added two more silvers in track and field as vision-impaired sprinter George Quarcoo and his guide placed second in the men's 100m T12 while Julia Tunks was the runner-up in the women's discus throw. Meanwhile, former Olympic decathlon champion Damian Warner put himself in first place at the halfway point of his competition.

Weightlifters Xavier Lusignan and 18-year-old Etta Love each took bronze as Canada finished with eight medals in that sport, including golds by 2021 Olympic champion Maude Charron and two-time junior world champ Charlotte Simoneau.
