Colby Bishop has warning for Sheffield Wednesday after his Portsmouth transfer from Accrington

Colby Bishop says he sees no reason why he cannot hit the ground running at Portsmouth after signing from Accrington Stanley.

The 25-year-old became Pompey's seventh summer signing as he put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Blues, joining Marlon Pack, Zak Swanson, Joe Rafferty, Josh Griffiths, Joe Pigott and Josh Oluwayemi as arrivals at Fratton Park in the current transfer window.

Bishop, who had scored 39 times in 123 appearances in his three years with Accrington, is now in line to make his Portsmouth bow in a home friendly against Coventry City on Saturday, before Pompey start the new League One campaign the following weekend against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

And Pompey's latest recruit is confident that the Blues have what it takes to start the season well in Yorkshire, with the former Notts County striker setting his sights on promotion to the Championship.

"Yeah, I don't see why not," he said, when asked if he felt ready to hit the ground running on the opening day at Hillsborough against one of the favourites for promotion in Sheffield Wednesday. "I am used to this league and I am hoping with the players around me - I know the talent we have got in this squad - obviously I am going to get loads of chances and I am hoping that I can put them away."

As for his decision to join Pompey from Accrington, Bishop said that he was delighted to now be with the Blues and that he cannot wait to experience Fratton Park as a Portsmouth player, having been to PO4 as an opposing player on several occasions in the past. And the striker is hoping that he and Danny Cowley's men can achieve their goals this season as they look to mount a promotion push in the third tier.
