Cody Rhodes used some of Vince McMahon's banned words on WWE Raw last night

Cody Rhodes opened last night’s episode of WWE Raw as part of a Miz TV segment with The Miz.

Since he returned, Cody has spoken about his desire to do what his father Dusty Rhodes never did, and become World Champion in WWE.

However, as he spoke about his title hopes, fans noticed a potential slip up from Cody during last night’s show.

Cody said that he is hoping to win the WWE “belt”, which is a word that is rumoured to have been banned by Vince McMahon.

The Miz played into that, telling Cody that he should refer to it as a “title”, noting that belts are “what hold your pants up”.

However, this wasn’t the only banned word that Cody said during his promo last night, which The Miz also picked up on.

Rhodes spoke about how he came to WWE to face the very best “wrestlers” on show, which is another word that McMahon is rumoured to have banned.

He even spoke about his on Pat McAfee’s podcast last month, explaining that the word Superstar carries more weight than “wrestler”, which is why he prefers it.

The Miz played into his WWE-stooge role perfectly, correcting Cody by saying “Superstar” after he said the famed W-word.

Dave Meltzer spoke about this on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, and seemed to suggest that this was part of Cody’s character.

Some fans thought that these two lines may have been mistakes from Cody, but Meltzer said that this wasn’t the case, and the lines were scripted.

“This is all scripted so his gimmick apparently is that he gets to say the words that nobody else gets to say and gets corrected.”

In a rematch from WrestleMania 38, WWE announced today that Cody Rhodes will go one-on-one with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania Backlash next month.
