Cody Gakpo speaks out as Antony closes in on Manchester United transfer

Manchester United transfer target Cody Gakpo has admitted he would be happy to remain at PSV Eindhoven this season.

Gakpo, 23, has admirers at Old Trafford and he has been on United's transfer shortlist this summer. The Dutchman is naturally a left-winger, who stands at 6ft 1ins, and he contributed 21 goals and 15 assists across competitions at PSV last season.

Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window closes on Thursday night and Gapko has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester, but United are now close to completing a €100million deal for Ajax's Antony.

Gakpo was asked whether that could affect his future on Sunday afternoon and he claimed that it would have no influence.

However, while Gakpo also admitted that he would be happy to stay at PSV, he suggested his future is like a 'puzzle'.

"Fun for [Antony], but for me and my future, I think that has no influence," Gakpo told ESPN. "It's like a puzzle so in the next few days I will see which puzzle fits best. For me, it'd certainly not be bad to stay at PSV. We'll see."

PSV failed to qualify for the Champions League and it's understood that means Gakpo would be more receptive to any offers.

Gakpo is contracted at PSV until the summer of 2026 and he could still yet leave the club this summer, despite his latest comments.
