Cocaine Bear fans ask ‘is this real’ as new film Attack of the Meth Gator teased

Fans of Cocaine Bear have asked “is this real” as new film Attack of the Meth Gator has been teased by its production company. Following the success of the outrageous bear-led comedy-horror, a low-budget film studio famous for its ‘mockbusters’ has announced a new drug-fuelled animal is coming to cinemas later this year.

The dark comedy Cocaine Bear went viral when it was announced last year and has enjoyed a strong opening weekend, currently sitting second in the US box office and third in the UK. Directed by actress-turned-filmmaker Elizabeth Banks, the film revolves around a black bear that goes on a rampage in a United States forest after ingesting a shipment of cocaine.

It is loosely based on the true story of a 175-pound bear that was thought to have died after ingesting $2m worth of cocaine in Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest. It stars Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Alden Ehrenreich and the late Ray Liotta.

Now an independent film studio, apparently inspired by Cocaine Bear’s success, has teased the upcoming release of their new film, Attack of the Meth Gator. American studio The Asylum – the company behind the comedy-disaster franchise Sharknado – has announced it will be releasing the ‘mockbuster’ this summer.

Alongside a poster for the film, The Asylum said: “Hold our bear… I mean, beer. Coming for your life this summer.”
