Co-op Live latest updates as Peter Kay and The Black Keys gigs cancelled at last minute

MORE gigs at the Co-op Live have been cancelled with just 24 hours notice in a tumultuous week for the new venue.

The huge new £365m arena has been plagued by issues this week that saw its first two gigs with Peter Kay on Tuesday and Wednesday postponed by a week due to power issues.

But today, the venue has said the Bolton comedian's performances have been cancelled AGAIN. Its re-arranged opening night - a gig from The Black Keys due to take place tomorrow - has also been postponed. All three have been re-arranged for next month, the venue says.

The latest news comes in the wake of a horrendous week for the arena that is set to become the UK's largest indoor venue when it opens.

Its test event last weekend had its capacity slashed from around 11,000 to 4,000 hours before it was due to start amid issues to do with power. The M.E.N. revealed how Greater Manchester's emergency services had raised concerns prior to that decision.

Just 24 hours later, it was announced that Peter Kay's grand opening for the arena on Tuesday and second show on Wednesday had been postponed by a week. And, after further reports of major issues behind the scenes, the venue's boss dramatically QUIT yesterday evening.

After Peter Kay's gigs were first postponed, the Co-op Live had said its opening night would see The Black Keys perform tomorrow (Saturday, April 27) albeit in front of a reduced capacity crowd of 10,000, with the Peter Kay gigs due to take place next week.

However, all three have now been postponed, with the Black Keys gig re-arranged to May 15. The two Peter Kay gigs have been put back to May 23 and 24.
