Club keen on £17m Leicester City transfer after Brendan Rodgers comments

Monaco remain interested in a summer move for Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare, with Brendan Rodgers' side standing firm on their asking price.

The Frenchman arrived at City last summer, but failed to adapt to the tempo of Premier League football in his first season in England The 23-year-old played a total of 30 times in all competitions last season but was left out of the squad entirely for the final four league games of the campaign.

That has prompted reports that he is one of the players that City are willing to cash in on this summer to emerge. Monaco have made their move for the player, with the French side said to have seen a €15 million offer turned down by City.

It is reported that the club are looking for a fee in the region of €20m (around £17m) this summer. City paid around £18m to bring him to the King Power Stadium from Lille this time last year.

French outlet L’Equipe now report that Monaco have Soumare as a key target this summer and are still working on a deal despite seeing their first bid knocked back by City. The report does however add that the French side are looking at other names in case a deal can’t be done.

It is said that City are sticking to their valuation of €20m for the player and that it is the price needed for City to sell. Philippe Clement, Monaco’s manager, is said to be maintaining contact with Soumare.

Despite catching the eye with some of his performances for City during pre-season, Soumare was again left out of the squad for Sunday’s 2-2 draw vs Monaco. Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester after the game, Rodgers said that the midfielder simply wasn’t selected in the 20-man squad.
