Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall: American sets up super-fight with points win over Ema Kozin

Claressa Shields reminded everyone why she is considered the ‘GWOAT’ of women’s boxing with the 12th win of her professional career over Ema Kozin.

Despite the rumours Floyd Mayweather was nowhere to be seen but in the end it didn’t matter as the Cardiff crowd were lucky enough to witness greatness in the flesh at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday night.

Walking out to a foot-stomping mash-up of ‘The Champ Is Here’ by Jadakiss and ‘Move B—-‘ by Ludacris, it was clear that Shields meant business, with Savannah Marshall sat watching on from ringside as the two girls went at it.

Kozin initially started well, backing Shields up against the ropes, but the American’s experience started to show as she soon took control of the centre of the ring.

In the second round Shields began to put together some combinations, targeting the head and body in quick succession, before following it up with a lovely right hand which went straight through the guard.

The Slovenian was looking a little deflated by the end of the fourth as she sensed the fight already starting to slip away from her.

She had some success in the sixth until another big overhand right wobbled her before she regained her senses.

Six rapid straight punches at the start of the eighth sent Kozin stumbling back towards her corner.

And Shields enjoyed making the young underdog struggle, using her physical size and superiority over her to her advantage.

Kozin kept on trying to keep up right up until the final round but the pace proved to be too much for her as the champ continued her unified middleweight queen reign at the top of the division.
