Christopher Jullien Celtic transfer exit looms as defender dashes to Germany to open Schalke talks

Frenchman Christopher Jullien has made his way to Germany to hold talks with Schalke, according to reports.

The Celtic centre back is looking set for a Parkhead departure, with the Bundesliga club in pole position to snap up his signature ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. The Frenchman arrived in Glasgow's east end back in 2019 for £7million but has since found himself out of the loop with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starleft ahead of him in Ange Postecoglou 's pecking order. And now 29-year-old centre-half could be making the move to the German side, according to Football Scotland.

Jullien is entering the final year of his current Celtic contract and has not enjoyed the best of times recently, with a knee injury keeping him out of the Hoops side for more than 12 months. And now he needs minutes in his legs, something that may not be guaranteed if he stays put at Parkhead.

Record Sport reported on Tuesday that the the player had posted, and then deleted, a snap of him aboard a flight. The cryptic message sparked speculation over his future after the player uploaded the pic captioned with an eyes emoji.

Jullien made just one sub appearance last season, featuring in an away cup tie victory over Raith Rovers. He appealed for an appearance against Motherwell on the final day of the season but he did not feature.

The former Toulouse stopper is also being tracked by Ligue 1 clubs Rennes and Lorient, according to the Scottish Sun . But it is the German club who are currently leading the race.
