Christian Eriksen outlines what result vs Liverpool FC can do for Manchester United season

Christian Eriksen says a result against Liverpool on Monday can be the catalyst that Manchester United need to get their season going.

The Dane started both of the club’s opening two defeats to Brighton and Brentford, and could get his third appearance of the season on the night. A natural attacking midfielder, Eriksen struggled in a deeper role in last weekend’s 4-0 defeat to former club Brentford.

There are questions over whether he will start the match with Erik ten Hag expected to change his tactics for the fixture with Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are also winless after two outings.

Casemiro’s arrival will be too late for him to feature in the clash but the lineup could still see two holding midfielders as United looks to quell a Liverpool attack that will be without the suspended Darwin Nunez.

Eriksen said that earning a result against their fierce Merseyside rivals can be the “stepping stone” United need to spark a revival. “If you get a result in a big game, you get the confidence to go on to the next one, and that’s definitely going to help you,” he told in-house media.

“First we need to do better than we did in the last home game [against Brighton]. So we need to get the fans going.

“We need to start well, get going into the game and play well in general. The fans expect a good game and so do we. But it’s definitely a good stepping stone to win the derbies, for sure.”

The feeling around the club is highly toxic following the club’s poor start. There is a planned anti-Glazer protest from supporters at Old Trafford during the game, which could make for an ominous atmosphere.
