Christian Eriksen dubbed the 'new Michael Carrick' after Manchester United displays

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes Manchester United have found their new Michael Carrick in Christian Eriksen, as the Denmark international continues to impress following his summer arrival.

The 30-year-old — who arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer from Brentford in the transfer window — has been deployed in midfield alongside Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes in recent weeks.

Despite operating in a more attacking role for the Bees last season, Eriksen has adjusted well to playing deeper in recent weeks and has received praise for his ability to dictate play and control the game. The Dane was incredibly impressive in the 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the weekend and recorded an assist for Marcus Rashford's late goal.

Wilshere has since suggested that Eriksen could be the long-term successor to United legend Carrick 1 who retired in May 2018 after 12 years at Old Trafford. Carrick enjoyed a successful stint with the Reds, winning the Premier League title, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield and Club World Cup.

"Not many players have got the vision he's [Eriksen] got," Wilshere told Premier League Productions.

"In the first few games, he was questioned because he was playing a little deeper. But he gives you creativity. The pass [in the build-up to United’s opening goal against Arsenal], it’s almost like a Michael Carrick pass. He plays with his head up, scans the pitch, he sees the picture before the ball comes to him.
