Christian Eriksen delivers honest assessment on Manchester United's recent form

Attacking-midfielder Christian Eriksen believes confidence is still growing within the Manchester United squad despite Sunday's 6-3 hammering at the hands of arch-rivals Manchester City.

United, who face Omonia Nicosia in their third Europa League group game in Cyprus on Thursday evening, saw their four-game winning run in the Premier League come to an end in spectacular fashion at the Etihad Stadium, being crushed by Pep Guardiola's title hopefuls. Phil Foden and Erling Haaland each scored twice in the first half to fire City into a 4-0 lead by the break, before completing their respective hat-tricks after the interval.

The Reds, who had gone four weeks without a league fixture ahead of the clash with City, found themselves 6-1 behind before two goals from substitute Anthony Martial put a slightly more respectable look on the scoreline. It confirmed that United remain a long way from being the finished article under Erik ten Hag.

But despite Sunday's horror show, Eriksen is pleased with the progress United have made in recent weeks. They have won four of their last five league games since being battered 4-0 by Brentford in the second game of the season in mid-August.

"The aim is to really keep going, keep doing what I'm doing," Eriksen told United's YouTube channel. "As a team, I think it's the same.

"Being as high as possible. Take away the first two games, then we start to look a lot better. The confidence is building."
