Christian Eriksen and Facundo Pellistri send messages to Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United players David de Gea and Christian Eriksen both reached out to Alejandro Garnacho after the Argentina starlet provided a concerning update on his ankle injury.

Garnacho, 18, limped off against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon following a challenge from right-back Kyle Walker-Peters which left him needing treatment. Sharing an update on Instagram, the winger stated he will play no part against Real Betis and Fulham.

Although no definitive time-frame has been put on his absence, the Argentine hotshot has also been forced to withdraw from the Argentina squad ahead of the upcoming international break, having just earned his first senior call-up.

Closer to home, it leaves Erik ten Hag without another first-team squad member as United prepare to jet to Spain for their Europa League last-16 return leg with Real Betis. Ten Hag and his players have one foot in the quarter-finals already following a 4-1 victory in the first leg at Old Trafford.

But they will be without injured Garnacho in his birthland, as well as the upcoming FA Cup showdown against Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Garnacho provided an update on Instagram shortly after noon and two teammates - De Gea and Eriksen - replied with messages of support.

Part of Garnacho's initial post read: "It's difficult to put into words how I'm feeling now. Unfortunately I will not be able to help my team and teammates in the upcoming games in what is a very important part of the season for us at Manchester United."

De Gea, 32, was among the first to comment back with "tranquility and recovering" while Eriksen - himself out with an ankle problem - posted three "strength" emojis.
