Chris Sutton delivers Rangers reality check to panicking fan as Celtic hero halts ‘worried’ on air punter

Celtic hero Chris Sutton reckons Rangers fans should be "delighted" with their position at the Premiership summit as he fielded concerns from an light blue legion.

Philippe Clement's side left the door open for the Hoops to climb to the top once again when they slipped up at home in the 2-1 defeat to Motherwell - but Celtic's defeat to Hearts less than 24 hours later means that the Ibrox side stay two points clear at the top of the pile. But a Rangers fan was quick to voice concerns to Sutton on BBC 5 LIve Sport despite the two-point advantage remaining over their Glasgow rivals.

Concerned caller George branded the Gers result “seriously worrying” and went on to play down Clement's record - with a winning streak abruptly ended by the visit of Stuart Kettlewell's men. He went on “even though they’ve won 11 in a row, hardly any of them have been convincing”.

Sutton responded: “It’s mad in Glasgow because both sets of fans are feeling the same way. It’s an interesting one. I was with Kris Boyd - he kindly gave me a lift - and we were chatting after. Of course he was happy that Celtic lost, but they could have been five points clear now.

“Here’s one for you, George. What Philippe Clement has achieved since he’s come in, you’ve got to flip that. He’s found a way of winning games.

“The Kilmarnock game was a genuine banana skin but they came back to win. Overall, you must be delighted to be in this position right now.”
