Chris Basham makes revelation over his Sheffield United future

The Star

The centre back signed a contract with the Blades two years ago that entitles him to a further 12 months being added to his deal if he plays a certain amount of games in the final season for the club.

Now it appears that the player is approaching that landmark as he revealed recently that he expects to trigger the agreement and extend his stay at Bramall Lane.

Confirming the news recently, Basham had this to say on his future with the Steel City outfit:

“I think it’s about seven or eight games away. I haven’t done it yet and I’m not exactly sure when. But it’s around that number, I know that.”

Basham has re-established himself as a regualr in the team under Paul Heckingbottom after being somewhat frozen out by the previous manager Slavisa Jokanovic and will now be looking to kick on.

He is in line to make his 26th appearance of the campaign again Hull City this evening.

The Verdict

This will be music to the ears of the Sheffield United faithful, with Basham having been a reliable member of the defence for quite some time now.

He is a club legend in his own right and will be keen to oversee even more success at Bramall Lane moving forwards into next season.

There is still a chance that the Blades could go up this term, so his full focus will be on hopefully grabbing a play-off place against the odds.

Anything from then on in a bonus for the veteran as he continues to prove his doubters wrong in the Sky Bet Championship at the club he has called home for so many years.
