Chippa coach rues missed chances against Sundowns: 'We gave away 2 silly goals'

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila was left to rue his side's missed chances as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday evening.

Despite a late fightback from the away side, goals from Teboho Mokoena and Peter Shalulile extended The Brazilians' lead at the summit to 13 points.

Sundowns headed into the game on a nine-match winning streak, however prior to the match, Chippa mentor Mammila was bullish in his assessment of his opponents and claimed that Sundowns were a "simple" side to plan for.

After the game, despite suffering defeat, he echoed his previous statements as he believed his side deserved more from the game and claimed that everyone was surprised that they lost.

The Brazilians had more possession but the Chilli Boys had more chances. However, unlike the hosts, they lacked the cutting edge.

Mammila felt Sundowns did not work for their goals and bemoaned his side's defending on both occasions as Mokoena and Shalulile were both left relatively unchallenged for their respective goals.

"Unfortunately, we gave away those two silly goals. They did not work for it; they did not create so many chances like you used to see Sundowns create a lot of chances.

"It's one of those losses, even you guys are surprised how Chippa lost today," concluded Mammila.

The result left Chippa stranded in ninth place in the standings with just six points separating
