Chip shop up in flames as fire closes busy road - live updates

Fire crews are dealing with a fire at a fish and chip shop on Treherbert's main street.

The A4061 Bute Street is closed in both directions between B4522 Dunraven Street and Church Street. Bus services are being diverted and traffic monitors are showing traffic is queuing in the area.

Pictures from the area show plumes of smoke rising in the area.

South Wales and Fire Rescue said the alarm was raised at 10.51am and they were called to a "domestic fire". Crews from Treorchy, Tonypandy and Ferndale at the scene.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "We are at the scene of an incident on Bute Street, Treherbert.

"The road is currently closed in both directions between Bute Street and Abertonllwyd street. It is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area."
