Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane showing signs of pressure after indifferent start to season

There is worry and concern among the Kaizer Chiefs faithful as their team are currently languishing 14th in the DStv Premiership.

It has been a disappointing start to the 2022/23 season, with the Glamour Boys sitting a mere two points above the relegation zone, winning only two of the seven league games they have played.

The pressure is now mounting on head coach Arthur Zwane, who inked a three-year deal in June after the club parted ways with Stuart Baxter.

Under Zwane's tutelage thus far, his charges have been goal-shy.

In seven league games, Chiefs have netted five goals compared to the eight they had at this exact stage under Baxter last season.

However, in the past two campaigns, they scored below that average, netting 34 goals in 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons and they are at risk of even scoring below 34 goals at the their current goal ratio rate.

Zwane's charges have also conceded eight goals in the league, which is the exact same they conceded at this stage last season.

But Chiefs have been punished defensively due to individual errors.

Siyabonga Ngezana felt the wrath of the Amakhosi faithful as his mistakes against Mamelodi Sundowns were too costly in their 4-0 loss at Loftus Versfeld.

The spotlight was again on the defender when Cape Town City nailed Amakhosi 2-0 in the Mother City but Zwane quickly came to his defence.

Last weekend, as early as the 12th minute, Zitha Kwinika carelessly let the ball bounce off his knee to allow Gallants striker Mahlatse Makudubela to score past Itumeleng Khune.

However, the former Bidvest Wits defender redeemed himself with an equaliser to ensure Chiefs grabbed a point for their troubles.
