Chiedozie Ogbene injury blow for Luton ahead of Spurs clash

Chiedozie Ogbene is out of Luton Town's Premier League trip to Tottenham on Saturday, with the Hatters' injury crisis extending to ex-Republic of Ireland international Kevin Foley, now a member of the club's back-room team.

Ogbene pulled out of Ireland camp ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Switzerland after picking up an injury. He returned to his club for further assessment, but has not recovered in time for the clash with Spurs.

Manager Rob Edwards has a crippling injury list which has claimed 10 first-team players and, this week, Foley.

"It got so bad earlier in the week that Kev Foley had to train in the opposition and he tweaked a hamstring as well, so I'm losing staff as well as players now!" he said.

Edwards has urged Luton to make sure their destiny is in their own hands amid the confusion of the Premier League relegation battle.

They currently lie in 17th, between two clubs with asterisks next to their names.

Nottingham Forest have appealed against their four-point deduction and Everton, whose 10-point penalty was reduced to six, could yet face further punishment.

Hatters winger Andros Townsend this week labelled the situation "nonsense" and a "mockery".

But Town boss Edwards said: "It's not something we think about.

"Of course we are aware of it, everyone is, even if you are not a football fan you are aware of what's going on.

"We can only control what we can and that is trying to get as many points as possible and if we don't it doesn't really matter what goes on, points deductions and appeals being successful or not.

"It's a really strange situation and it's difficult to talk about because it's not happening directly to us but we are obviously involved in it.
