Cheltenham Festival 2023 day two tips as Garry Owen goes for Edwardstone and The Real Whacker

The Cheltenham Festival got off to a flyer and now punters are looking ahead to the second day for some bookie bashing.

Our man Garry Owen napped Marine Nationale in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle to get off to a flyer on the first day and picks out his best bets and selections every day right here. Here's his day two tips.

THE REAL WHACKER (2.10) can strike in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase on Day Two of the Cheltenham Festival. The eight-year-old has developed into a top prospect over fences since re-joining Patrick Neville. The gelding was thrown in at the deep end on debut in a red-hot event over course and distance. He responded magnificently by jumping and galloping the talented Indigo Breeze into submission. That led his skilled handler to target the Grade 2 Dipper Chase on the New Course in December. And the bay shrugged-off the drop back to 2m 4f with a dominant defeat of the classy Monmiral.

The star would be a serious Gold Cup contender so he can send his fellow novices to the canvas. HERMES ALLEN (1.30) can give Paul Nicholls his first winner of the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. The gelding looked a smart piece of recruiting when routing Theatre Man on debut at Stratford. He raised his game once again when absolutely bolting up from Music Drive in a Grade 2 here. Those triumphs saw the six-year-old go off a warm favourite for the Challow Hurdle at Newbury. And he added the Grade 1 to his ever-growing CV with a breathtaking defeat of You Wear It Well.
