Chelsea star shares emotional message as Mason Mount closes in on Manchester United transfer

Chelsea utility player Trevoh Chalobah has paid an emotional farewell to lifelong friend Mason Mount after Manchester United made a breakthrough in their attempts to sign the midfielder.

United reached an agreement with the Londoners on Thursday afternoon, agreeing to pay up to £60million to sign the England international. The Reds are set to pay £55m up-front and an additional £5m in add-ons.

Mount is scheduled to undergo a medical in the coming days and is on course to become United's first signing of the summer transfer window. Manager Erik ten Hag had made it his mission to strengthen his midfield options this summer and he is now on course to achieve that objective before the start of pre-season.

Mount's impending move to Old Trafford will end his 18-year stay at Stamford Bridge; he joined Chelsea back in 2005 at the age of just six-years-old. He made his up through the academy alongside Chalobah, who joined the club two years later in 2007.

It means they have both played key roles in each other's development and seen their careers progress. Unsurprisingly, confirmation of United reaching an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mount impacted Chalobah emotionally and he soon took to social media to sum up how he was feeling.

Posting just two words on his Twitter page, the the former Huddersfield Town loanee said: "My boy," accompanied with a crying face emoji and a broken heart.

The duo won the FA Youth Cup together twice and were together when Chelsea won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2021 under former head coach Thomas Tuchel, who was a huge fan of Mount, despite many people fearing that his arrival at the club in January 2021 would spell
