Chelsea Nightingale beams next to stunning new Manchester City mural unveiled at side of building in Fallowfield

Former Manchester City Women's defender Chelsea Nightingale beamed as she posed next to a portrait of herself on a stunning new mural unveiled in Fallowfield.

The colourful installation of dramatic artwork, commissioned by local councillors and created by Ethan Lemon and Buzz Murals, celebrates the south Manchester neighbourhood where the historic Maine Road Stadium once stood for eight decades.

The dazzling mural, featuring original women's team member Chelsea Nightingale, local Moss Side goalkeeper Alex Williams, women's goalkeeper Khiara Keating and Fallowfield-born Neil Young, appeared beside a takeaway along Platt Lane earlier this week.

Councillor Jade Doswell said the city council commissioned the artwork along with artist Ethan Lemon. Other famed works of his include the mural of music legend Rowetta that appeared in Fallowfield back in February, leaving the Happy Mondays member 'in tears'.

On his Instagram page, the muralist said the most recent project 'celebrates the neighbourhood where the Man City historic ‘Maine Road’ Stadium stood for 80 years.'

"The players we chose to paint each symbolise an important part of the history and future of Manchester City," he penned.

Featured is Chelsea Nightingale, an original member of the professional Man City Women’s team when it relaunched in 2014. Now a decade later, Chelsea beamed beside the mural with her dog on Wednesday (April 24).

Alex Williams, from Moss Side, is also featured. He became the first black goalkeeper to play in the top flight of English football in the 1980s, making 125 league and cup appearances for the club between '80 and '86.
