Chelsea move for £50m star now 'heating up' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s pursuit of Everton star Anthony Gordon is ‘heating up’ according to transfer insider Dean Jones, with ‘the next few days’ being potentially decisive, although there are other players on the club’s radar.

It was reported by The Times last week that Chelsea had seen a second bid worth £45m for the 21-year-old rejected by the Toffees, following a failed £50m offer.

Ahead of Everton’s draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Goodison Park gaffer Frank Lampard appeared to issue a hands-off warning regarding the winger, refusing to be drawn on discussing his future and insisting he’s seen as a player of ‘huge value’ to the team.

Nonetheless, it appears Chelsea still have Gordon in their sights. Football Insider have reported that the west Londoners are ready to table a £50m offer.

Everton are said to value him at in excess of £50m and insist he’s not for sale, although Gordon himself is open to a move to Stamford Bridge.

And Jones believes there could be a breakthrough in the saga within the next few days, although Chelsea are also eyeing alternative targets.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones hinted that a key development in Chelsea’s pursuit could be just around the corner.

However, the transfer insider also insisted Thomas Tuchel’s side are looking at other options to bring in before the transfer deadline.

He said: “The Gordon situation is heating up and I think we’ll know in the next few days if Chelsea can make the necessary breakthrough. Pulisic could go, Hudson-Odoi will probably go, Ziyech will go… the door is open for new faces. Gordon is not the only player they are looking at though.”
