Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount's 'transfer preference' amid Manchester United links and more rumours

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is "leaning towards" a summer move to Manchester United, according to reports.

Mount's future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain, with the 24-year-old due to enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer. Talks between player and club have progressed little, with the midfielder unwilling to sign a long-term deal leaving his departure looking increasingly likely.

United are reportedly among a number of Premier League clubs eyeing the England international, along with Liverpool and Manchester City, but could look to get ahead with a big-money bid. The Daily Mail reports that they are preparing a bid worth £55million as they look to pip their rivals to Mount's signature.

However the report adds that their bid will fall way short of Chelsea's valuation, believed to be around £85million. And The Athletic reports that Mount's preference would be to secure a switch to Old Trafford, with "talks expected between the clubs in due course". It is also claimed that other clubs chasing Mount are "aware of his preference" to join the Reds.

Erik ten Hag is keen on adding quality to his midfield, with a ball-playing No.8 second on his summer shopping list behind a goalscorer. Mount's decision could still be affected by who takes charge at Stamford Bridge over the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino looking set to take over from interim boss Frank Lampard.

Elsewhere, 90min reports that United are mulling over the possibility of signing two strikers this summer as Ten Hag looks to add more goals to his squad.
