Chelsea 'in talks' over signing exciting £45m star at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are still in talks with Everton for a move for winger Anthony Gordon, according to Simon Phillips.

Thomas Tuchel is interested in bringing the Toffees’ youth academy prospect to Stamford Bridge this season, with the Merseyside club desperate to keep hold of him.

Frank Lampard has recently been speaking about the potential departure of Gordon from Goodison Park, stating that as much as he would like to keep hold of the 21-year-old, he can’t stop the player from leaving Everton if the Toffees receive an acceptable bid from Chelsea.

“You can’t ask me to assure anything – that would be naïve of me to assure anything,” Lampard told journalists, regarding the potential transfer.

A report from The Mirror has suggested that Everton have turned down a bid worth £45m from Chelsea for the wide man, but Gordon is reportedly keen to test himself at Champions League level.

And Phillips believes that the Stamford Bridge club are still in talks for a potential move for Gordon, with a £35m plus £10m in add-ons offer being the last offer on the table.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea are still in talks [with Everton for Gordon] at the moment looking to do a deal.

“At the moment, the last fee I think that Chelsea had on the table was £35m with £10m in add-ons.

“Everton want that base fee to be at least £45m plus the add-ons.

“So, I think we’re about £10-15m short at the moment, from their valuation of the player.”

At the age of just 21, it looks like Gordon has a particularly high ceiling that he could reach with Chelsea, and if he can improve on his impressive breakthrough season from the last campaign, he would already be part of the way there to be paying back that fee that Chelsea may spend on him.
