Chelsea deal for £85m star 'strange situation' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s potential record-breaking transfer for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana has been described as ‘strange’ by transfer insider Dean Jones.

Thomas Tuchel has overseen a hectic summer window at Stamford Bridge but could strengthen his side further with a big-money raid of their Premier League rivals.

After Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger both departed on free transfers at the end of last season, Tuchel is seemingly eager to add one more centre-back to his ranks after the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly.

Two bids have already been made for the Leicester star with both rejected, with the latter reported to be around £70 million.

As per talkSPORT, the Blues are now ready to return once again with a world-record bid for the 21-year-old of £85 million, the most ever paid for a defender.

But the same outlet also reports potential trouble ahead, with Paris Saint-Germain catching wind of the battle and entering the race themselves.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has previously said he does not want to lose the centre-back but it is looking like a tough battle to do so.

Jones says he is amazed that Chelsea are willing to spend as much as they reportedly are on Fofana this summer.

The transfer insider points to the fact the Blues were previously unwilling to match Jules Kounde’s asking price, which he says makes the current situation all the stranger.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I am amazed they’re going as high as they are for this player. When you consider how long it took them to accept Jules Kounde’s valuation, and then they missed out on him anyway. If they’d have just paid up, they could have had Jules Kounde in the first place and not be in this situation. So that’s a strange one.”
