Chelsea could now move for £120k-a-week Premier League star at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea could make a deadline day move to sign Leicester City star Youri Tielemans, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues are believed to be in the market for a midfielder before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline and Tielemans is available with his contract running down.

Arsenal have been the frontrunners for Tielemans’ signature all summer, although the Gunners are now pursuing a deal for young Brazilian midfielder Danilo, which could pave the way for the Blues to swoop in.

Chelsea’s need for a midfielder comes following an injury to N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic’s recent fitness problems, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek reduced Thomas Tuchel’s central options even further after injuring his hamstring at Southampton.

According to Sky Sports, Leicester would be ‘prepared’ to sell him on Thursday, providing someone matches their £25m asking price.

That’s because the Foxes know this is their last chance to receive a significant fee for his services, with Tielemans’ £120,000 per-week contract expiring at the end of the season.

Phillips said that he was informed that Chelsea were keeping a close eye on the Belgian earlier this window and reckons Tielemans moving to Stamford Bridge is “one to watch”.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea wanted James Garner, but he looks like he’s close to Everton at the moment, but I’m not going to rule out a surprise name from nowhere.

“Tielemans at Leicester is one that I was told about a few weeks ago but I didn’t really report because it was just whispers. But that could come up because he’s available and he’s a centre midfielder.

“So, that’s definitely one to watch in the final stages of the transfer window, but I can see Chelsea pushing for a new midfielder, purely because of all the injuries.”
