Arsenal: Edu has 'checked out' £70m midfielder at the Emirates

Arsenal have previously ‘looked at’ signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves but a deal is now unlikely with transfer deadline day looming, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Mikel Arteta has overseen a busy summer of business at the Emirates and still has time to strengthen ahead of Thursday’s 11pm cut-off.

According to the Athletic, another Wolves star has been made the Gunners’ top target in the form of winger Pedro Neto.

However, it is now understood that a deal for the 22-year-old is highly unlikely with the Gunners viewing the demands of the West Midlands side as unrealistic.

Arsenal have made five new signings this summer with over £100 million being spent on the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira.

Meanwhile, Villarreal star Yeremy Pino has also been targeted by the Gunners, with the La Liga outfit demanding £42 million.

A midfielder does appear to be on the Arsenal agenda, with the likes of Youri Tielemans and Sandro Tonali previously linked.

Neves was understood to be one of the alternatives for Manchester United earlier in the window should a move for Frenkie De Jong fail to materialise. But the Red Devils have since sewn up an agreement with Real Madrid for Casemiro.

Jones understands that Arsenal previously looked at signing Neves from Wolves but ultimately opted against a transfer.

The insider adds that there appears to be little chance of a deal being struck with Bruno Lage’s side ahead of the imminent deadline.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I can’t see Neves happening at this point. He should have been looked at seriously. I think he has been checked out but there’s nothing happening there.”
