Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel answers transfer question amid Wesley Fofana interest

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has refused to comment on whether he will push to sign more defenders in the final days of the summer transfer window amid strong interest in Leicester City's Wesley Fofana.

The 21-year-old was left out of Leicester's squad for the game against Southampton, which Brendan Rodgers' side lost 2-1 at the King Power Stadium, after he agreed personal terms with Chelsea on a six-year deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After reportedly seeing two bids turned down by Leicester, Chelsea have not yet made a third approach and Tuchel has refused to comment on whether he will make another attempt. After summer arrival Kalidou Koulibaly picked up a red card in the defeat at Leeds United, signing another centre-back could be a priority for Chelsea before the weekend.

When pressed upon further backline transfers following the loss of Koulibaly with a red card, Tuchel told reporters after the defeat to Leeds: "I don't know. We need to wait. The transfer period is still open. It gets later and later, and we need to focus on what we have and what we can do.

"We can obviously play at a high level, but we lost track when there was no need. We were not forced to lose track. Everything was going well. We can win with this team in Leeds, everything was going well, and we had goalscoring opportunities. It went the other way, and I think it was more our fault than anyone else's credit."

And former Premier League striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged Chelsea to bolster Tuchel's squad before the end of the summer transfer window.
