Chelsea: Boehly may target 'unbelievable' 2-time title winner at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea could move for former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino or Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone after they sacked Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Chairman Todd Boehly only completed his takeover at Stamford Bridge three months ago but has decided to part ways with one of the club’s most successful coaches in recent years.

Tuesday night saw Chelsea fall to a shock 1-0 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening game of the new Champions League campaign.

After full-time, Tuchel once again bemoaned his side’s poor performance and claimed he was ‘angry’ with himself after the display.

But barely 12 hours after the final whistle in Croatia, the German had been sacked, with the club confirming the news in a statement on their official website.

Part of it read: “As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.”

The decision is a particular shock after Boehly had backed Tuchel to the tune of £250 million in the transfer market, bringing in big names such as Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to the Telegraph, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter is set to be the early frontrunner for the role with Anthony Barry primed to step in for the time being.

Jones says that the most obvious candidate to take over is Pochettino after he was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain.
