Chelsea: Boehly 'had talks' with 142-goal star's agent at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met with Cristiano Ronaldo‘s agent Jorge Mendes back in June to discuss the possibility of a move to Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford in serious doubt, the Londoners have emerged as a potential destination for the Portugal captain.

After the 37-year-old expressed his desire to leave Manchester United following their failure to qualify for the Champions League, The Athletic claimed that Chelsea were ‘considering’ a move for the forward.

The Blues have endured a frustrating start to the Boehly era, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling the only arrivals this summer, while the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Romelu Lukaku have all left the club.

Brighton defender Marc Cucurella is close becoming Chelsea’s third off-season arrival, but Thomas Tuchel desperately needs further attacking reinforcements before September’s deadline.

With Ronaldo’s future at United still not solved, a move to Chelsea wouldn’t appear entirely off the cards despite The Athletic claiming last month that they had withdrawn their interest.

Chelsea might have cooled their interest in the legendary frontman, but Romano revealed that a meeting between Boehly and Ronaldo’s agent took place earlier this summer.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea had a conversation with his agent, Jorge Mendes in early June, so almost two months ago, there was a conversation between Todd Boehly and Mendes.”

Chelsea don’t necessarily need to sign Ronaldo, who’s scored 142 goals for the Red Devils, but they badly need a forward in some capacity of some sort before the window closes.

Heading into the new campaign, Tuchel might have just two recognised central options at his disposal
