Chelsea: £150k-a-week star 'wants to leave' Stamford Bridge

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic wants to leave Stamford Bridge before the window closes, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The USA international has struggled for regular starting opportunities under Thomas Tuchel and has been linked with a loan exit.

Pulisic made the switch to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund for £58m in January 2019, although he was loaned back to the Bundesliga club, meaning he didn’t get underway until the start of the 2019-2020 campaign.

He was directly involved in 21 goals in his first season, which included a hat-trick against Burnley and strikes against Liverpool and Manchester City.

But the American wasn’t able to replicate that type of form in the next two campaigns, registering just 23 goals and assists since, which has seen him slip down the pecking order.

This season, Pulisic has found himself out of the team, playing just 31 minutes in Chelsea’s first two Premier League games.

Pulisic has also entered the final two years of his £150,000 per-week contract, which means this summer is one of the final chances the Blues have to cash in on him.

Manchester United have shown an interest in the 23-year-old and while Phillips doesn’t think a move to Old Trafford is likely to happen, he reckons that Pulisic wants to leave Chelsea in some capacity.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I can’t see Pulisic going to Man United, but when you look at history, Chelsea sold Willian to Arsenal and a few other players have done it, although I’m actually told Pulisic does actually want to go, I was told that weeks ago and put that out there.”

With the World Cup just three months away, Pulisic will want regular minutes to ensure he’s in the best shape for the showpiece in Qatar, which starts in November.
