Cheapest areas to buy a house in Greater Manchester where you're most likely to find a bargain

House prices have climbed in recent years making it more and more difficult to find an affordable home. With the average house price in Greater Manchester now £257,437 according to Rightmove, this makes buying a property particularly tough for first-time buyers and low income households.

Despite house prices soaring in most areas, there are certain parts of the region where you can still find a bargain home. In the boroughs of Bolton, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside and Wigan, there are properties on the market for much less than the average house price.

Here we look at the cheapest areas to buy a house in Greater Manchester where the average house price is less than £200,000.

As one of the region's more affordable boroughs, there are several areas in Bolton where you are likely to find a cheap home.

The cheapest place is the town of Farnworth which has an average house price of £161,402.

This is followed by Heaton, Blackrod, Kearsley and Little Lever where the average cost of a property ranges from £187,000 to £195,000.

The Manchester borough has several areas with average house prices that are less than £200,000.

The cheapest area to buy a home at the moment is Harpurhey, with an average price of £136,253.

Newton Heath, Openshaw and Gorton are the next most affordable areas to live, followed by Moston, Moss Side, Longsight and Belle Vue.

There are three areas in Oldham where you are likely to find a bargain home.

The cheapest part of the borough is Hollinwood, with an average house price of £159,429.
