Chatham Town Women’s boss Keith Boanas warns lowly Cambridge United could provide dangerous opposition after side’s 3-0 weekend home win

Chatham Town Women’s boss Keith Boanas has warned lowly Cambridge United could provide dangerous opposition this Sunday.

While Chats’ hopes of promotion from National League Division 1 South East are all but over, they still harbour hopes of a top-three finish this season.

Weekend visitors Cambridge sit fourth-bottom and are on a five-match winless league streak, but are well clear of the two teams that occupy the two relegation positions.

When the teams initially met at Cambridge in November, the fixture was abandoned due to a serious injury to a home player - Chatham were 2-0 behind at the time - before Boanas’ troops won the rearranged match 3-0 last month.

They even had keeper Abby Baravik dismissed early on before defender Lucy Jones donned the gloves.

On Sean Greygoose’s outfit, Boanas said: “The first one was postponed because of an injury.

“Then, we had the rearranged one that we managed to win 3-0, with 10 players on the pitch from the second minute. We had a full-back in goal and still managed to win 3-0.

“They’re not a bad side - and they’re playing with no pressure now. When you play a team with no pressure, they can be dangerous because they have got nothing to lose.

“I know their coach, he’s a good coach, and I know they will come to play. But if my players perform, there’s no doubt that we’re favourites on paper.

“It’s just about them doing their jobs and being professional in every game.”

While promotion looks out of reach for Chatham, they have Kent Women’s Cup and Isthmian League Cup finals on the horizon.

“The bottom line is the top two spots are probably gone,” Boanas said. “That means that third is the best we can go for.

“It’s about building momentum.”

It means there is plenty still for the Chatham
