Chatham Town Women play away against Chesham United this Sunday after a 1-0 win over Luton Town Ladies last week

Chatham Town Women face bottom side Chesham United this Sunday - and the state of the opposition’s pitch could make things tricky.

Manager Keith Boanas wasn’t impressed with the playing surface at Town’s Meadow Ground on his last visit and will be preparing for the worst this time around.

His team will be looking for another win to back up last Sunday’s home victory over Luton Town, which keeps them in the chase of the leading sides in National League Division 1 South East.

“Their pitch can be a leveller if it’s like what it was last year, which was awful,” said the Chats boss.

“It’s not one of the best surfaces.

“They are getting beaten heavily every week but, as a coach, you are always waiting for that week when they turn it around.

“We have to try and be ruthless, I don’t want us to be too cautious or careful but the three points will be massive for us to stay in contention. We need these points.

“They conceded seven against Milton Keynes [last weekend] but it was at Stadium MK on a massive, decent surface.

“The only issue for us is making sure we are prepared for that pitch.

“If we were a professional club and training every day, in an ideal world I would take them over to a park to have a game, just to prepare.

“Surface-wise, it could be like Sunday League if it’s like last year.

“I am hoping it has improved and I don’t want to be disrespectful, but we will make sure everyone has their studs!”

Chesham have lost nine of their 10 games, their only point coming at home. They certainly concede less on home turf , 17 compared to 25.

Chatham need to keep winning to keep the pressure on the top two in the division - Fulham and Norwich - and Boanas expects international trio keeper Simone Eligon, Jasmine Auguste and Otesha
