Chatham Town are at home to Whitehawk in the Isthmian Premier Division on Saturday | Kevin Hake’s side had Chris Dickson and David Aziaya making debuts in defeat at Billericay Town

New signings were on show for Chatham Town in midweek but the team was out of luck.

Chats lost 2-0 away at Billericay Town on Tuesday night in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Manager Kevin Hake added three new faces to the squad ahead of that game with goalkeeper David Aziaya and experienced striker Chris Dickson starting for Chats. Teenage forward Freddie Price has also joined.

It was a loss in the week for Chats, however.

Hake said: “We have to feel unlucky to not come away from the game on Tuesday with something.

“Overall, I was pleased with the performance. The desire was good and we created a lot of chances resulting in hitting the woodwork three times and having a few penalty shouts turned down.

“I’m not the sort of manager who accepts defeat easy but that one is easier to take as you know the performance was there.”

Billericay won it with both of their goals coming inside the opening 15 minutes.

Goalkeeper Azaiya has joined Chats on loan from Bromley. The 19-year-old had been in the academy at Norwich City before joining the National League side.

Former Gillingham and Charlton striker Dickson, now 38, adds additional options to the attacking line-up at Chatham, having recently left Erith & Belvedere.

Price, 18, has also joined from Concord Rangers, having impressed against the Chats earlier this season, the club saying that “with scintillating pace to burn and the ability to take up a position on either flank, Price promises to give out attack an extra dimension.”

Price wasn’t involved on Tuesday, however, or in last Saturday’s friendly against Erith & Belvedere, put on after Chatham’s league game at Canvey Island was postponed because of the wet weather.

Chatham won the weekend friendly 3-1 with goals from Jack
