Charlie Nicholas blasts 'lucky' Rangers fans for 'moaning and groaning' as he calls Union Bears protests into question

Charlie Nicholas reckons "lucky" Rangers fans need to accept where they are - and cut out the "moaning and groaning."

The Ibrox board have been at odds with a section of the support with the Union Bears recently banned from displaying an "offensive" banner at Ibrox which resulted in a partial boycott of their Scottish Cup win over Raith Rovers. That comes against the backdrop of protests against Ross Wilson and the Rangers board which have intensified after defeat to Celtic in last month's Viaplay Cup Final.

But Nicholas reckons "moaning" fans need to have some perspective and realise they are "lucky" to be where they are. He wrote in the Scottish Daily Express: "I don't know where Rangers fans are going with their protests. Having displayed banners against the club's board during recent fixtures with Kilmarnock and Hibs, the Union Bears supporters' group then boycotted last weekend's Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers at Ibrox after the club refused to let them bring in an 'offensive' anti-police banner.

"The Rangers fans should stop their moaning and groaning and realise they are lucky to be where they are. The club doesn't have a lot of money and they are having to pay back what was spent on stopping Celtic winning 10-in-a-row two seasons ago.

"A major reason that Steven Gerrard, left, jumped ship later that year was that he knew there were limited funds at Ibrox. Rangers don't have a strong budget and their fans just need to swallow their pride. The best they can hope for this season is retaining the Scottish Cup and then they can try to build again."
