Andy Halliday can't resist Celtic dig as Steven Gerrard applauded over 'magnificent' Liverpool penalty

Andy Halliday has crowned his former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard's penalty against Celtic his favourite goal of the weekend in a cheeky dig at his rivals.

The Hearts midfielder has lapped up the Liverpool legend's goal in a front of a crowded away section at Anfield as a Reds Legends side emerged 2-0 winners over their opponents in Hoops. Gerrard - who managed Halliday in his first two seasons at Rangers and won the Premiership in 2021 - was targeted by missiles as he celebrated but his former midfielder was happy to see him net.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the 31-year-old was asked to provide what he thought was goal of the weekend, and Halliday replied: "I don't get a lot of opportunities to have a wee sly dig at Celtic these days so I am picking Steven Gerrard's penalty. I thought the way he tucked it right into the bottom corner was magnificent. As I said, I don't get a lot of chances so I have got to take it while I can."

Record Sport columnist Hugh Keevins asked 'got good security at your house have you' when probing Halliday on the tongue in cheek comments. He responded promptly with "Oh, absolutely."
