Charles Leclerc eyeing top four finish at Canadian Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc has a big job of damage limitation in front of him later this afternoon in Montreal, but he believes that a top-four finish can be an attainable target in the Ferrari.
Leclerc went into the weekend looking as though he’d avoid grid penalties but after multiple component changes relating to his power unit he now starts the Canadian Grand Prix from P19, and will be looking to keep his nose clean on the first lap before trying to surge up the field.
The race is set to be dry after wet conditions on Saturday and that should work to his favour, with the Ferrari one of the fastest cars around, though he’ll obviously be hoping it improves its reliability, starting this Sunday.
Speaking ahead of the race and after qualifying on Saturday, Leclerc revealed that he’s looking to finish in the top four to limit the damage to his title challenge and then move on with the hope his reliability problems are in the past:
“We will try to make the best out of it tomorrow and then hopefully we can have no more reliability issues any more and focus on ourselves and catch the Red Bulls in the championship,” said Leclerc.
“It was a bit more difficult to overtake than I initially thought [in practice], but overall I think we’ve got quite a good pace in the car if we play it smart with the strategy, having some clean air, we can come back to P4 or something, so that is the goal and I’ll give it everything.”
