Chapelhall teen heading to Junior World Taekwondo Championships

A youngster from Vision Taekwondo Club in Wishaw has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Junior World Taekwondo Championships later this year.

Sixteen-year-old Ava Bett from Chapelhall will represent her country in Chuncheon, South Korea from October 1-6 after impressing selectors. She will compete in the Female Under 59kg category on the first day of the event.

Her selection comes off the back of winning three European Ranking event medals; bronze at the Bulgarian Open, bronze at the President’s Cup in Estonia and, most recently , winning her first ranking event gold medal at the Luxembourg Open in June.

Ava will now prepare for the event with regular training camps in Manchester, including two international training camps with the National teams from Denmark, France, Poland and Malta before heading to Korea at the end of September.

Proud club coaches Craig and Ross Eden released a statement on behalf of the club, which read: “This is a huge achievement for Ava and one which has required years of hard work, dedication and investment from her and everyone else involved in supporting her journey. Her selection for Great Britain is one we are all extremely proud of.”
